PKK terrorists kill Turkish gendarmerie special forces major in armed attack carried out in Turkey’s eastern province of Tunceli

Injured major was rushed to the hospital immediately in Turkey's eastern province of Tunceli on September 26, 2015.

Turkish Gendarmerie Special Forces Major Yavuz Sonat Guzel was killed on Saturday during an armed clash with the PKK terrorists in Turkey’s eastern province of Tunceli.

On Saturday evening, a firefight broke out between PKK terrorists and Turkish security forces near Demirkapi district of Tunceli.

Turkish major Guzel belonging to gendarmerie special forces was critically injured during the clashes, he was immediately rushed to Elazig Firat University Hospital in a helicopter, despite all efforts, the major died at the hospital.

Gendarmerie forces launched a comprehensive operation on the outlawed PKK terrorists following the incident. Backed by helicopters, security forces targeted the areas used by PKK terrorists, while armed clashes with militants continued.

The PKK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the US, EU and the UK.

The PKK began renewed terror attacks in Turkey when its umbrella organisation the KCK unilaterally ended an over two-year-long ceasefire with the government on July 11. Since then, attacks by the group have claimed the lives of over 120 security officers and  30 civilians.
