Turkish security officials on Wednesday morning detained 13 suspected PKK terrorists in joint anti-terror operations, raiding several addresses in six districts in Istanbul.
Anti-terror teams in Istanbul raided 23 different addresses in Pendik, Kartal, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Atasehir and Bagcilar districts of Istanbul.
Police detained 13 out of 22 suspects, who had arrest warrants issued against them, while several organisational documents, automatic weapons, guns and ammunition were also seized during the operations.
Turkey has stepped up efforts against militant groups following a suicide attack on July 20, allegedly carried out by ISIS, which killed 34 people in the Suruc district of the southeastern Sanliurfa province.
Since July 24, over 1,600 people have been arrested in counter-terrorism operations amid a spike in attacks targeting security officers and civilians by PKK, which is considered a terrorist organisation by Turkey as well as NATO, the US and EU.
PKK terrorists killed 25 civilians and a total of 118 Turkish security officials in numerous terror attacks since restarting the conflict against the Turkish state.
