Six detained over attacks in Turkey’s southeast

Turkish security forces detain six suspects over attacks conducted in southeastern provinces of Bingol and Diyarbakir

Six suspects have been detained - including the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) deputy mayor of Lice district, Harun Erkuş - over accusations that they conducted highway robbery and attacks on military forces on Turkey’s southeastern Diyarbakir-Bingol highway on Thursday, Diyarbakir officials said in a written statement.

The statement said “It has been found that the suspects organised the attacks and made propaganda about the outlawed PKK.”

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, NATO and the EU.

On Tuesday a police officer was kidnapped by suspected militants belonging to the PKK in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir in Turkey.

Police officer Sedat Yabalak was abducted while driving his civil vehicle with his family on the Diyarbakir-Bingol highway, Turkish police reported.

“We are still waiting for his release,” the wife of the officer told a Turkish newspaper.

Describing the incident in an upset manner, “I was with our children who are 5 and 1 years old. During the incident, they dragged away my husband after taking his wallet forcibly and seeing his police ID.”

“I pleaded to one of the militants and they released me with my children,” she added.

PKK terrorist killed in patrol attack

Turkish security forces killed one of four militants after they attacked a gendarmerie station in the Cizre district of Turkey’s southeastern province of Sirnak on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, PKK terrorists shot at an officer in Cizre district.

Security forces and militants clashed following the attack.

One of the militants was killed during the clash.

Mine attack on trains in eastern province of Kars and southeastern Bingol

PKK terrorists laid mines on railways in Turkey’s eastern province of Kars on Thursday.  

Security officers reported that the mines were exploded with the use of a remote device while a freight train was passing.

No casualties were reported in the incident, however the train and the surrounding rail track were destroyed as a result of the explosion.

A similar attack took place in the southeastern Bingol Province. Militants bombed a mail train on Thursday, which resulted in the destruction of the train and a section of railway.

Turkish security forces have begun an intense investigation into both incidents.

One gendarme wounded in Beytussebap district of Sirnak Province

A soldier belonging to Turkey’s gendarmerie force was wounded in an armed attack carried out by suspected PKK terrorists on Wednesday.

Militants shot at soldiers stationed around the highway with long-barreled weapons from a moving vehicle.

Security operations have since been carried out against militants around the areas where the incidents took place.
