Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) has launched on Monday its brand new global news television channel TRT World.
The state-owned TRT presented its new channel at an inauguration in Istanbul with the participation of Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan.
Pointing out the success of TRT broadcasting, Akdogan said, “TRT World will be the world’s number one in reporting news, just like the other TRT channels being number one in Turkey.”
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, TRT Deputy Director Ibrahim Eren has said that TRT World would offer "a different perspective" than CNN, Al-Jazeera or the BBC.
"It will offer Turkey's point of view on current events. Rather than promoting Turkey, we aim to show the audience how we interpret the current affairs," he said.
TRT operates 15 television channels, including services in Arabic, Kurdish and its TRT Avaz service, which mainly broadcasts to Turkic republics.
