Teams from Turkish Labour and Social Security Ministry have destroyed more than 2,500 unsafe life vests made for refugees planning to cross Aegean Sea to reach Europe in raids to 121 underground workshops and companies on Friday.
According to media sources, the operations were launched simultaneously in Turkeys eight provinces, including Istanbul, Izmir, Mugla, Antalya, Aydin, Kocaeli, Mersin and Canakkale.
The fake jackets are seriously dangerous as they immediately sink in water due to synthetic materials with no buoyancy.
The news of the latest seizure comes after Greek and Turkish Coast Guards on Friday recovered the bodies of 44 refugees whose boats capsized on their way to Greece.
Earlier in January, Turkish security forces seized over 1,200 counterfeit life jackets being sold to Syrian refugees in the region to get complete their dangerous journey to Europe.
