Can Haitians accept an armed foreign presence in their fight for peace?
Amid ongoing violence in their country, Haitians take to the streets, marching for peace. Communities with a population of approximately two million have fallen under the control of heavily-armed gangs, who have expanded their territorial influence. Recognising the severity of the situation, the United Nations has urged the deployment of a multinational force. However, will Haitian civilians accept the presence of armed foreign troops, and will any nation step forward to lead the effort?
