64 years ago, in the early hours of Aug 13, East Germans awoke to barbed wire and barricades after the Berlin Wall was constructed to prevent an exodus to the West.
Hundreds were killed along the 155km-long "death strip" before it fell on Nov 9, 1989, ending 28 years of division.
