Iran’s top security official arrived in Oman on Tuesday, signalling intensified behind-the-scenes diplomacy as Tehran and Washington move toward a new round of indirect nuclear negotiations.

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, is scheduled to meet Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.

The discussions will formally focus on regional and international developments, as well as economic cooperation between Iran and Oman.

The visit follows indirect Iran-US talks held in Muscat on Friday, the first since negotiations were suspended after the 12-day Iran-Israel war last June, a conflict that briefly expanded to include US strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites.

Although Iranian media have not outlined the specifics of Larijani’s agenda, sources say he is expected to coordinate closely with Omani mediators on the structure, timing, and location of the next round of talks.

The renewed engagement comes after nearly eight months of diplomatic stalemate, as both sides cautiously test pathways back to negotiations amid a volatile regional landscape.
