China's bike-sharing frenzy brings chaos to streets

Chinese authorities are encouraging people to ride bikes, rather than drive, to fight pollution. But a booming bike rental business that has flooded streets with packs of cyclists has not turned out as planned.

A booming rental bike business has flooded China's streets with packs of cyclists. But some riders' habits of going the wrong way or of abandoning bikes are causing havoc.

Authorities in Beijing, scrambling to catch up, are considering new regulations to curb the chaos – from capping the number of bikes to even barring people they consider too big or too small for bicycles.
