An Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, accompanied by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has arrived in Islamabad for talks with the US.
The delegation includes senior political, military and economic officials, including the defence council secretary, the central bank governor and several members of parliament.
The delegation was received on the tarmac in Islamabad by several high-ranking Pakistani officials, led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq.
Dar expressed hope for constructive engagement between the warring parties, affirming Pakistan's commitment to advocating for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf has said that Tehran has "good intentions but no trust" on US ahead of negotiations with, according to the Tasnim News Agency.
"Unfortunately, our experience of negotiating with the Americans has always been met with failure and breach of contract," he said when he touched down at the Islamabad Airport.
"Twice in less than a year, in the middle of negotiations, despite the good intentions of the Iranian side, they attacked us and committed numerous war crimes."
Ghalibaf stressed that Iran is ready to reach an agreement if the US demonstrates sincerity.
"In the upcoming negotiations, if the American side is ready to make a real agreement and grant the rights of the Iranian people, they will see our readiness to make an agreement as well."
The Lebanese government and the Trump administration have asked Israel for a "pause" in its attacks on Lebanon before direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon begin next week, Axios has reported, citing two sources.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the report.
The call comes as delegates of US and Iran are set to hold historic peace talks in Pakistan on Saturday.
Israel has said it will not discuss a ceasefire with Hezbollah when it holds talks with Lebanon's government next week in Washington.
The Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors spoke to set up the talks that will open Tuesday at the State Department.
Israel "agreed to begin formal peace negotiations" with the Lebanese government, with which it has no diplomatic relations, said the Israeli ambassador, Yechiel Leiter.
"Israel refused to discuss a ceasefire with the Hezbollah", he said in a statement.
D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Secretary-General Ambassador Sohail Mahmood has told Anadolu news agency that members such as Türkiye, Pakistan and Egypt have been actively helping mediation efforts to prevent a further escalation in the Iran war, support a ceasefire, and promote a lasting diplomatic solution.
All sides have a duty and historic responsibility in the planned ceasefire talks between the US and Iran in Pakistan, he said in written remarks.
He added that weeks of behind-the-scenes diplomacy helped create a critical opportunity to step back from the brink.
Mahmood underlined that the talks in Islamabad must be productive and lead to a stable peace.
