Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) said US and Saudi forces carried out attacks on its headquarters at multiple locations across Iraq.

The PMF said the strikes killed several people and wounded others.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said three oil tankers were "targeted and stopped" in the Strait of Hormuz after they ignored repeated warnings, according to local media.

IRGC warned that any vessel following “illegal interference or orders” in the strait “will not go unanswered”.

The report did not identify the targeted vessels or provide further details on their status.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they launched ballistic missiles targeting a US air base and the US military's Central Command headquarters in Jordan, according to Iranian state television.

The claim comes amid a sharp escalation in regional tensions. There was no immediate confirmation from the United States on the specific targets cited by Iran.

The US military said it carried out precision strikes in Iraq targeting “Iran-aligned groups” that it said were preparing attacks on American forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.

US Central Command said the operation was aimed at disrupting imminent threats against US personnel in the region and critical Saudi oil facilities.

US oil futures climbed more than 4 percent to above $82 a barrel after the US military confirmed that Iran had launched a ballistic missile attack targeting US forces in the Middle East.

The gains reversed earlier losses triggered by Washington's surprise suspension of air strikes on Iran, as markets had been focused on reports of renewed US-Iran diplomacy. Brent crude also rose sharply, trading above $88 a barrel.

Iranian state television, citing an unnamed military source, said Tehran had no connection to projectiles launched from other countries towards targets in Saudi Arabia.

The denial came after reports of attacks on Saudi targets, with the source insisting Iran was not involved in any strikes originating outside its territory.

The US military said it has intercepted multiple missiles launched by Iran, in the first flare-up in violence in several days.

"At 5:45 pm ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on US forces based in the Middle East," Central Command (CENTCOM) wrote on X, adding that "all Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted."

Iran appeared to launch missiles toward US military bases in Jordan early on Wednesday, according to local and Iranian media reports.

The reports said missiles were fired toward US installations in the country, with air defence systems trying to intercept the incoming projectiles.

There was no immediate official confirmation from the US, Jordan, or Iran.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated in recent weeks, with Washington carrying out attacks on Iran and Tehran responding by targeting what it says are US military facilities and equipment in countries across the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas discussed the latest regional and international developments in a phone call, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the two sides exchanged views on regional and international developments as well as ways to help reduce tensions and preserve regional stability and security.

Tuesday’s conversation came three days after Araghchi and Kallas spoke on Saturday in another call, during which they discussed developments, including what Tehran described as Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea and tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Arabia says its air defences intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that were targeting oil facilities in the kingdom's eastern region.

It was the second such attack in less than two days as Riyadh presses Iraq to prevent its territory from being used as a launchpad against Saudi oil facilities.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Brigadier General Turki al-Malki described the attacks as "terrorist attempts".

He said Saudi Arabia reserves the right to respond "at the time and place it deems appropriate".
