The US Embassy in Israel has warned Americans in the Middle East of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions due to “potential for unforeseen escalation".

“Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation,” the embassy said in an advisory.

“US diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted,” it said.

“Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other US interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including US businesses and other institutions,” it added.

The embassy also urged US citizens travelling to or from the region to stay informed about airport and airline operations.

Several explosions were heard east of Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, state media reported.

More than five explosions were heard around Masan village on Qeshm Island, IRIB said, adding that four more explosions were also heard from the direction of the Strait of Hormuz on Qeshm.

Citing the deputy governor of Hormozgan province for political, security and social affairs, the outlet added that no casualties have been recorded in the province so far.

Continued Israeli attacks and military activity in southern Lebanon are still affecting civilians, sometimes preventing people from returning home or causing localised displacement, the UN refugee agency said.

Responding in writing to an Anadolu question about displacement caused by Israeli attacks despite a ceasefire, UNHCR spokesperson Babar Baloch said: “Continued Israeli strikes and military activity in southern Lebanon continue to affect civilians and can, at times, hinder returns or trigger localised displacement.”

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has said that the bloc is planning a new mission to advise and train Lebanon's armed forces, stressing that the initiative is not intended to replace the UN peacekeeping force in the country.

Speaking at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Wicklow, Ireland, Kallas said the planned mission would focus on strengthening the capacity of the Lebanese armed forces and state institutions to provide security across the country.

"The EU is not seeking to replace UNIFIL. We are investing in Lebanon's capacity to provide security for itself," Kallas said.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said that the Strait of Hormuz would become obsolete within two years as alternative oil routes would bypass the strategic waterway.

“We have to de-risk everywhere in the world. We can see the Iranians are trying to use the Strait of Hormuz as a choke point,” Bessent said during an interview in Asheville, North Carolina.

“It’s not a choke point for the US, but it is a choke point for many, many other countries,” he said on the sidelines of meetings with G20 countries’ ministers.

Bessent claimed the strategic waterway “will be bypassed in two years.”

“In two years, the Strait of Hormuz will be like a worthless piece of water,” he said.

“The oil will be going on pipelines across land,” he added.

Tehran says that the two presidents "reviewed bilateral relations" and "discussed ways to strengthen and expand cooperation in various fields".

Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at a meeting in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek that Moscow stood in solidarity with the Iranian people in the fight for their interests.

Putin also said that Russia and Iran will maintain their economic and trade relationship despite the current military and political environment.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said the United States is likely to announce sanctions on a bank this week as part of its economic campaign against Iran.

"We are probably going to announce a bank sanction this week, and we will announce one the week after. We are speaking to our allies here, who have all come forward, and we have had a great show of support," Bessent said.

Iran has accused the US of mistaking negotiations for dictation, saying such an approach would not work with Tehran, as tensions between the two countries remain high.

“The Americans have mistaken the concept of negotiation for dictation, something that will definitely not work with Iran,” foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told a televised news conference.

Baghaei accused Washington of acting in “bad faith” and being confused over its approach toward Iran, arguing that the US had become trapped in what he described as a strategic mistake.

“As long as they act in this manner, they will certainly achieve no result other than what they have obtained so far,” he said.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq discussed efforts to strengthen regional security and stability during a meeting in Jeddah, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported.

The two leaders also reviewed bilateral relations and opportunities to expand cooperation across various fields, SPA said.

Discussions also dwelt on regional developments and efforts to preserve security and stability, the same source said.

The meeting came as Oman, Qatar and Pakistan work to ease regional tensions and bring Iran and the US back to negotiations to reach a lasting end to their war after an initial agreement reached in June stalled.

Qatar has called for de-escalation and a return to negotiations between Iran and the US following Iranian attacks against the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

“The return of escalation in the region is in no one’s interest,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari told a press conference in Doha, calling for calm and a return to negotiations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has criticised the UN and its Security Council over their response to Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, saying the international body had failed to effectively address major threats to the international order.

Addressing the “SCO Plus” meeting held as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek, Pezeshkian said the world is facing military aggression, genocide, war crimes, terrorism and what he called illegal sanctions.

“The performance of the United Nations and the UN Security Council in dealing with these developments, including in Gaza, Lebanon and the recent aggression against Iran, has been very disappointing,” he said.

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that a return by the United States to a policy of pressure and threats risked derailing diplomatic efforts to end the war in the Middle East.

"The repeated violation by the United States of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding showed that... the absence of effective enforcement guarantees, and a return to a policy of pressure and threats could derail the path of diplomacy," Pezeshkian said in a speech at a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan.

Three “unknown projectiles” struck a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz overnight, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said amid a fresh flare-up in the US-Iran war.

The agency said the tanker was hit during an outbound transit, 17 nautical miles east of Oman’s Khasab, with no casualties or environmental impact reported.

Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the Liberia-flagged Senegal Prosperity, saying rockets hit its “port side, engine room and ballast tank,” causing a loss of communications while the crew remained safe.

Two supertankers carrying Saudi oil were struck by unknown projectiles within minutes of each other while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz late on Monday, according to shipping intelligence and tracking firms Marisks and Kpler.

"The near-simultaneous incidents represent a further escalation in the threat environment within the Omani corridor," Marisks said.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said the “sincere implementation” of the June Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding remains the “only way forward” to resolve the US-Iran conflict.

Dar made the remarks during a “warm exchange” with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan.

They discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, while Dar stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential for regional peace and stability.

Iran has sufficient foreign currency reserves despite US sanctions, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati has said, after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tehran was lashing out because it was losing the economic war.

The central bank was ready to inject up to $2 billion into the foreign exchange market to calm recent volatility, Hemmati said, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

“I am telling the President of the United States: Iran has (foreign) currency and it has enough,” he added.

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Tehran would "immediately" reciprocate if the United States returned to a June deal aimed at ending the war.

"I state explicitly that if the United States returns to its commitments under the aforementioned memorandum of understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take reciprocal action," Pezeshkian said at a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan, according to the website of the Iranian presidency.

Oil prices rose about $1 as renewed fighting between the US and Iran in the Middle East revived fears of supply disruptions from the world’s key crude-producing region.

Brent crude futures gained $1.05, or 1.2 percent, to $91.54 a barrel at 0455 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate rose $1.27, or 1.5 percent, to $87.03.

In the previous session, Brent closed 2.7 percent higher, reaching its highest since August 25, while WTI settled 2.8 percent higher, its highest since August 21.
