Iran claims to have downed two US drones near Hormuz
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that four oil tankers were destroyed after hitting naval mines while attempting to pass through a prohibited shipping lane south of the Strait of Hormuz.
The tankers remained ablaze following the explosions, the IRGC said in a statement carried by the official IRNA news agency.
Two other vessels were detained for violating shipping restrictions, it added.
The IRGC also claimed its air defence forces shot down a US-made MQ-9 drone over the strait at 4.30 am local time (0100GMT), describing it as the 56th such aircraft it had downed.
The statement said the operations were carried out by the IRGC's naval and aerospace forces, which had inflicted "heavy blows on the enemy."
Four air strikes targeted weapons depots and military vehicles belonging to Yemen's Houthi militia at the Central Security Camp in Al-Bayda province, Al-Jumhuriya TV reported, citing field sources.
The broadcaster provided no details on casualties or the extent of the damage, and the party responsible for the attack remained unidentified.
The Houthis control most of Al-Bayda, a strategically important province in central Yemen that borders eight others.
President Donald Trump acknowledged that the war in Iran played a role in Republicans' losses in Tuesday's midterm elections, as Democrats prepared to take control of both the US House and Senate and challenge his legislative agenda.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Democrats would send legislation he considered "insane" to his desk and that he would veto it.
"They'll send over things that are insane, and I'll veto them," he said. "And after a couple of months of vetoes, they'll call and they'll say, 'How do we get this stuff done?' And we'll work together."
Trump said the war in Iran had weighed on Republican candidates, even as voters backed his handling of it. "I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time people understood the importance of what I've done with Iran," he said.
Iran's chief negotiator in talks with the United States, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that Americans voted "NO TO WAR" after Democrats routed the Republicans in the midterm elections.
Democrats won full control of the US Congress in a sweeping landslide of upsets that delivered a crushing rebuke of President Donald Trump and his party.
The vote reflected dissatisfaction over living costs, tariffs and Trump's war against Iran.
"Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message," Ghalibaf posted on X.
Oil prices rose in a volatile session as investors awaited Washington's next move in the war with Iran, with Democrats capturing control of the US Congress from President Donald Trump's Republicans in midterm elections.
Brent futures rose 82 cents, or 0.8 percent, to $104.42 a barrel at 0510 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate crude futures gained 50 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $96.59, reversing earlier declines.
In the previous session, Brent settled at its lowest level in nearly four weeks as traders weighed talks to end the wars in Ukraine and Iran.
Vote counting was under way in the US midterm elections, with Democrats snaring majorities in both houses of Congress for the rest of Trump's second term.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi urged the United States and Iran to show flexibility in seeking a settlement, warning that renewed fighting could draw the region into a wider conflict with "catastrophic" consequences.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar, Sisi called for a deal that addressed each side's main demands and concerns.
He urged the parties to pursue dialogue "before it is too late," warning that renewed military operations could have severe humanitarian and economic consequences across the region and beyond.
Israeli authorities plan to set aside nearly 2,350 acres of land in the occupied West Bank for grazing by Israeli illegal settlers, a Palestinian government body said.
The Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission said two notices dated November 1 outlined plans to issue temporary grazing permits covering 9,488 dunams (about 2,345 acres) of land Israel classifies as "state land."
The notices cover land in Al-Zawiya, Rafat and Deir Ballut in Salfit governorate, and in Arraba, Kafr Rai and Ya'bad in Jenin governorate.
The United States has no immediate plans to strike Iran, President Donald Trump has told the Financial Times.
In an interview with the FT, Trump suggested he was content with the state of the standoff with Iran.
"We seem to be getting everything we want," Trump said in the six-minute telephone interview.
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia has warned American citizens of escalating security threats from the Houthi militia, citing attacks on civilian airports and critical infrastructure that have caused civilian casualties and significant travel disruptions.
In a security alert, the embassy said the Houthi militias have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other essential infrastructure. The embassy cautioned that the situation could escalate "rapidly" beyond the immediate area.
"US citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions. Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia," it said.
The northern Israeli city of Karmiel stepped up emergency preparations and ordered inspections of all public shelters amid media reports of a possible renewed war.
The municipality said Mayor Moshe Koninski instructed the city's security chief and security teams to check every public shelter and ensure the city was ready to respond to an emergency.
It said instructions from the Israeli military's Home Front Command remained unchanged.
