The war in Syria has been ongoing for seven years with hundreds of thousands of people killed and no visible foresight on when it will end.

The United Nations has long been criticised for failing to bring an end to the war, apart from achieving the occasional temporary ceasefire.

In the face of the continuing tragedy, this year's UN General Assembly is likely to be overshadowed by the UN's failure to produce a solution.
