The Basque militant group is set to complete its dissolution at a peace conference in the French Basque Country a day after they released a "final declaration" recorded by a historic high-ranking ETA figure.
Created in 1959 at the height of Francisco Franco's dictatorship, the ETA was blamed for hundreds of killings and kidnappings in its fight for an independent Basque homeland in northern Spain and southwest France.
Formed during the rule of Franco, the Basque separatist group ETA is blamed for the deaths of more than 800 people, with the violence peaking in the 1980s and 1990s.
