President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Türkiye aims to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy together to resolve the crisis.
UN chief Antonio Guterres' remarks came during a joint press conference with Türkiye's Defence Minister Hulusi Akar at the Joint Coordination Centre overseeing Ukrainian grain exports in Istanbul.
Twelve vessels carrying more than 370,000 metric tonnes of grain and other foodstuffs have been authorised to leave Ukrainian ports, while several more grain vessels in Turkish waters await contracts.
One of the ships is carrying corn to South Korea, while the other is carrying bulk sunflower meal to Istanbul, says the Turkish Defence Ministry.
The POLARNET vessel, which got security clearance from a team at the Istanbul-based Joint Coordination Centre, is expected to offload its cargo later in the day.
Under a recent landmark deal signed in Istanbul, the grain-laden ships Mustafa Necati, Star Helena and Glory left Ukraine’s Chornomorsk port, and the vessel Riva Mind left the port of Odessa.
