By continuously breaking Russia-brokered ‘peace’ agreements, the regime is hampering Moscows’s long-term vision of exploiting Syria economically.
After securing Damascus in May, regime leader Bashar al Assad is determined to oust rebels from a key southern region bordering Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
"The (regime) army and its militias have besieged Daraa completely," says opposition spokesman Abu Shaima, adding thousands of people have been encircled in a new regime push.
The agreement to end violence in southern Syria and surrender the crossing point with Jordan comes after rebels rejected a deal with the Russians earlier this week.
The Syrian regime has taken opposition-held territory in Daraa since increasing the violence almost two weeks ago, with Russia stepping in to oversee deals to retake towns from the embattled rebels.
Warplanes have pounded towns in southwest Syria in recent days as a regime offensive, backed by Russia, gathers pace.
