The week-long clashes have continued after security forces fired to disperse protesters, who were trying to storm the provincial government building using rocks and Molotov cocktails.
Renewed protests began on Thursday evening in a month of deadly unrest that has claimed more than 200 lives.
The PM's decision came after nine people were killed and dozens others injured as anti-government protests that erupted in the capital Baghdad spread to other city's in the country's south.
