Known as “white ant”, Ongwen is accused of having committed some of the most horrific atrocities in Uganda and its neighbouring countries.
ICC convicts Dominic Ongwen, a child-soldier-turned-commander of Lord's Resistance Army, for 61 out of 70 alleged crimes, including rape, sexual enslavement, child abduction, torture and murder.
Judges at the International Criminal Court said Dominic Ongwen had acted out of free will in committing the crimes between 2002 and 2005, which include murder, rape and sexual enslavement.
Dominic Ongwen is being tried by the The International Criminal Court on 70 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity. He claims he was himself a victim of the organisation after he was abducted as a child.
