The annual tradition comes as the Democratic Union Party enters into a controversial power-sharing agreement with Britain's Conservative Party.
Northern Ireland's main political parties Sinn Fein and DUP have been in talks to form a government since an election in March but are yet to come to an agreement.
The deal will allow May to pass legislation with the backing of the DUP in parliament, and stay in power as she attempts to negotiate Britain's exit from the European Union.
