Two people died in Portugal and seven in Spain as storms Elsa and Fabien flooded rivers, brought down power lines, uprooted trees and disrupted rail and air travel across the region, leaving more than 118,000 households without electricity.
Airports were closed, a ferry ran aground and traffic authorities reported incidents "all over the place". Britain has not seen this amount of snow since 2013.
