Japan has developed a swimming robot that began an underwater probe inside one of Fukushima's tsunami-destroyed nuclear reactors to look for traces of melted fuel.
Only a handful of reactors have come back online, due to public opposition, since the Fukushima disaster in 2011. Tuesday's move comes after court clearance.
Japan has seen growing opposition to nuclear plants after the Fukushima accident in 2011. After the closure of many reactors by court orders, the country has now just three operating nuclear power plants.
