Roughly 70 women have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct dating back decades. The former Hollywood producer, who sparked the #MeToo movement, could face a life sentence if convicted.
The new indictment also comes with a disclosure that a third woman will be called to testify that Weinstein raped her in 1993 to bolster the prosecutors' case.
Harvey Weinstein's lawyers called the prosecutor's decision to schedule a new arraignment "desperate measures" that "indicate more of a focus on obtaining a conviction at all costs than on seeking justice."
The counts include child porn, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice. In February, Kelly was arrested on 10 counts in Illinois involving four women, three of whom were minors when the alleged abuse occurred.
Weinstein's spokeswoman, Juda Engelmayer, confirmed that she had retained Donna Rotunno and Damon Cheronis ahead of the scheduled criminal trial.
The Wall Street Journal says the proposed agreement would not affect a criminal case pending against Weinstein in Manhattan, in which he has been charged with rape and other sex crimes. A trial in that case has been scheduled for September.
