At least 600 people in India-administered Kashmir, which includes Indian soldiers, local police and 160 civilians, lost their lives to violence.
This comes two days after four Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistani fire along the de facto border between the South Asian rivals.
Pakistan denies the incident involving two Indian soldiers which allegedly took place along the Kashmir border. Separately, a mob in India lynched two Muslim men over suspicion of stealing a cow; the men died of their injuries.
