Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo became the first Frenchman to win the MotoGP world championship following a fourth-placed finish in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy.
Marquez's win came despite starting in seventh position after being hit with a grid penalty, surging past nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi who crashed out when leading.
