Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Turkey is aiming to develop the defence industry and protect peace in the region.
Former Pakistan intelligence head General Ehsanul Haq and former deputy chief of Indian Air Force Kapil Kak say US defence missiles are no match to tested Russian defence system. Washington has warned Turkey and India against buying S-400s.
"Turkey fulfills all NATO requirements ... We strongly reject linking this matter with the F-35 [fighter jet programme]," Turkey's Defence Minister Hulisi Akar says.

"We discussed the S-400 subject with Russia. Indeed the S-400 issue is settled," Turkish President Erdogan was cited as saying. "I think they will start to come in the first half of July."
President Trump agrees to joint US-Turkey study on Washington's concerns over the sale of the Russian missile defence system to Ankara, Middle East Eye reports.
Turkey already proposed to form a joint working group to assess whether the S-400 will pose a threat to NATO or not, said Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the pressure against Ankara's purchase of S-400 air defence system is because "Turkey takes action with its own will regarding the regional developments, particularly Syria."
"Turkey does what is necessary for its own interests regarding the S-400 missile defense system, it makes its own decision," Vice President of Turkey Fuat Oktay says.
Washington has cautioned that the S-400 system might covertly obtain critical information on the advanced fighter jets, including their detection range, which could then be relayed to Russia.
Russian president suspends Moscow's obligations under the terms of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty and says the hold would remain in place "until the US ends its violations of the treaty or until it terminates."
