The clashes came a day after the Taliban said they had killed 28 Afghan paramilitary policemen in Uruzgan in southern Afghanistan.

"We are trying to negotiate their release with the Taliban," says Abdullah Hasrat, a spokesman for Paktia's governor after Taliban kidnapped six Afghan journalists.
Meanwhile, a director of a local TV station was kidnapped in the eastern Nangarhar province and a suspected US drone strike in the Paktika province killed a local government employee believed to have links to militants.
US Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was charged with desertion and endangering his fellow troops when he abandoned his unit in Afghanistan in 2009. He was then held by the Taliban for nearly five years.
The Pentagon says Qari Yasin was a senior figure from Balochistan who had ties to the Tehrik-e-Taliban group and had plotted multiple attacks.
