Pemex is aiming to extract 69,000 barrels per day from the site by next year, and reach 110,000 barrels per day by 2021, the chief executive of the company says.
The disaster occurred last week as the government wages a huge effort to clamp down on fuel theft, which costs Mexico an estimated $3 billion in 2017.
The blast occurred as fuel thieves were tapping an oil pipeline in a small town in the Mexican state of Hidalgo.
