Indian troops kill five rebels in three separate gun battles and one civilian in India-administered Kashmir, provoking fresh protests and clashes in the restive mountainous region.
The attack comes on the 25th anniversary of a massacre in which Indian government forces killed at least 47 people after a paramilitary soldier died in a rebel attack.
Indian troops shot dead two suspected rebels in northern Sopore town in India-administered Kashmir. Separately, three people were killed near the de facto border Line of Control during shelling between the Indian and Pakistani armies.
