TRT World’s new documentary strand, Storyteller, launches on Sunday April 7 on TRT World. The documentary strand premieres on Sunday, April 7 and presents a three-part miniseries about a Muslim community in Brisbane, Australia entitled “The Mosque Next Door”. The series is highly relevant after the New Zealand terrorist attack of March 15, 2019 as it follows the Muslim community while it deals with struggles within, and stands up to islamophobia and discrimination from some officials and commoners alike.

Michael Davie, the Emmy Winning Director of War Child and Gorilla Murders, and Head of Documentaries at TRT World, said it has been an absolute pleasure and an exciting challenge to pull together the incredible films which make up the first season of Storyteller. “The films tackle some of the toughest issues facing our world today - without ever feeling like homework,” he said. “Our stories centre on brave, outspoken and sometimes tremendously funny everyday heroes determined to make their voices heard. We stand behind the bold statement each film makes and we're proud to showcase the creativity of the filmmakers who worked so hard to bring these stories to life.”

Other themes that the show tackles include the environment, refugees and migrants, disability, autism, women empowerment, and modern day slavery. The strand features documentaries that have won awards and garnered critical acclaim in major documentary festivals around the world such as IDFA, Hot Docs, and Sheffield Docs, among others.

For viewers who miss the chance to catch the films while airing on TRT World, most films will be available for 30-days after their first broadcast date on the TRT World website at www.trtworld.com/storyteller. Storyteller’s The Mosque Next Door, Episode 1 premiers on TRT World this Sunday, April 7th at 18:00 GMT/ 21:00 IST/ 14:00 WASHINGTON DC/ 02:00 SING
