THE QUESTIONS ABOUT JAMAL KHASHOGGI'S MURDER TO BE ANSWERED IN ISTANBUL

The murder of Saudi journalist and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi is not only a dark day in the history of journalism, but is also one of the most politically charged affairs to have taken place in recent years.

TRT World Forum addresses questions are yet to be answered about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi who was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018.

The assassination of Khashoggi will be discussed in detail at TRT World Forum on 21 - 22 October. The session will explore the geopolitics of the Middle East in light of the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.

On the second day of TRT World Forum, Arab intellectual, writer and activist based in Norway, Iyad Al-Baghdadi, former member of the Egyptian Parliament and founder and chairman of the Ghad el-Thawrah Party, Ayman Nour, advisor to the chairman of AK Party, Yasin Aktay, editor in chief of Middle East Eye, David Hearst, human rights activist, journalist, politician and President of Women Journalists without Chains organization, Tawakkoul Karman, Saudi Arabian human rights defender and founder and director of ALQST, Yahya Ýbrahim Assiri will seek answers to questions concerning the murder on Tuesday, October 22.

THE POLITICAL CRISIS OF THE MIDDLE EAST AND THE SEARCH FOR NEW COOPERATION WILL BE DISCUSSED AT TRT WORLD FORUM

The prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi visited the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018 and never heard from again.

Later, it turned out that Khashoggi was killed by a team from Saudi Arabia, and his body was not found despite all the searches.

After Turkey summoned Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the Foreign Ministry to demand an explanation of the case several times, Saudi Arabia cooperated with Turkey in the investigation into Khashoggi’s disappearance.

The assassination of the prominent journalist inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul provoked an international outcry and continues to have strategic, political and legal ramifications.

As a result, Riyadh was plunged into an international image crisis. Seeking to dampen the negative fallout from the killing, the Saudis have spent millions of dollars on lobbying firms and public relations companies in order to advance a more positive image of the Kingdom.

Furthermore, the subsequent fallout has also presented a picture of the newly unfolding geopolitical reality in the Middle East that continues to reshape political dynamics in the region. This session will explore the geopolitics of the Middle East in light of the killing of Jamal Khashoggi and seek to understand how the tragic event fits into the emerging political dynamic in the region.
