For the past two years, TRT World Citizen, the social responsibility arm of TRT World, has worked to bring light to the plight of those around the world who struggle and suffer in silence. Each year, the Signature Campaign of World Citizen focuses on one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time, creating content and hosting events to build a platform to amplify the voices of the oppressed. As we enter our third year, TRT World Citizen is proud to announce our new Signature Campaign:

Dignity Without Borders

This years campaign will highlight the struggles and the successes of refugees and migrants all over the world. Currently, over 70 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes due to violence, persecution, and economic distress. Frequently, these individuals are vulnerable to a vast array of human rights abuses, including a denial of their civil and political rights, arbitrary detention, or a lack of economic and social support, including the denial of employment rights, healthcare, education, and housing.

While migrants are often portrayed as helpless victims or as a burden on their host countries, the truth is much more complex. Migrants and refugees are frequently positive contributors to their host communities, bringing their determination, skills, and work ethic to provide countless benefits to their new homes, both economic and cultural. Most migrants carry with them the desire to build a better life, and in doing so they create new opportunities for host communities to be strengthened by their presence.

The 2020 Signature Campaign will feature original content throughout the year, including new digital video series, public outreach events, and our third short film competition. The TRT World Research Centre has also released a special report on this issue, with in depth analysis of the conditions faced by refugees and migrants globally.

As Turkey gains its rightful place as a force for good in a troubled world, and has become renowned in the region, and beyond, as a nation pursuing a principled and humanitarian-driven foreign policy, TRT as a leading news organisation, is also doing its part to make a difference in the world we live in. Dignity Without Borders is an opportunity for TRT World to reinforce their support for shared prosperity, access and a chance at life for all.
