In pictures: Turkey hosts massive joint military drill

One of Turkey's biggest military exercises, the EFES 2018, opened in the Aegean province of Izmir with the attendance of 21 allied countries.

Turkish Chief of the General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar attended the fourth day of EFES 2018 Combined Joint Military Exercise on Thursday in the western Aegean province of Izmir.

Military units from the US, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, the UK, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, Georgia, Italy, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Hungary, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Romania, Slovakia, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan are attending the drill.

The exercise hosted by the Aegean Army Command of the Turkish Armed Forces is being held in Seferihisar district of Izmir province from May 7 till 11.

As part of the exercise, there is a defense industry exhibition where 35 industries showcase its products.

The highlight of the exhibit was the Bayraktar TB2 armed drone which opens fire on targets using Smart Micro Munition MAM-L. The TB2 armed UAVs have been used by the Turkish Armed Forces and Turkey's Security Directorate since 2015.

Turkish defence company Otokar also exhibited first time its Cobra II Load Carrier Armored Vehicle which has been developed for secure delivery of vital materials, including ammunition, fuel, food and water to troops during operations and to military bases.

The drill comes as the conflict in the neighbouring Syria still has no sign to end and tensions with Greece in the Aegean remain high.
