Turkey releases family of Russian envoy's killer

The relatives of Mehmet Mert Altintas, who gunned down Russia's ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, were released after being questioned by authorities.

A Turkish police forensic vehicle parked outside the art gallery in Ankara, where Russia's Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was assassinated on December 20, 2016.

Turkish authorities on Thursday released the family of the off-duty policeman who assassinated Russia's Ambassador to Ankara, Andrey Karlov.

Police had detained Altintas' mother, father, sister and two other relatives for questioning.

He was killed after gunning down Karlov on Monday evening at an art exhibition in Ankara.
