Does negotiating with terrorists work?

: To pay or not to pay? Should governments save kidnap victims by paying ransoms? Or does it just encourage terror groups to take more captives? Scores of kidnapped girls were suddenly released last week by Nigerian militants Boko Haram. Nigeria's government denied a ransom was paid for their freedom. But why the concerns about ransoms? Isn't it a price worth paying to save lives? Or does it just prove to militants their methods work? At the Roundtable was Yvonne Ridley, a journalist who was kidnapped by the Taliban in 2001 and held captive for 11 days; Temitope Olodo, President of the Africa Safety Forum; and Robert Fox, the Defence Editor of the London Evening Standard. Roundtable is a discussion programme with an edge. Broadcast out of London and presented by David Foster, it's about bringing people to the table, listening to every opinion, and analysing every point of view. From fierce debate to reflective thinking, Roundtable discussions offer a different perspective on the issues that matter to you. Watch it every weekday at 15:30 GMT on TRT World.
