Sometimes the politicians you elect leave you annoyed and disappointed. Political disillusionment and voter apathy is on the rise. Democracy watchdog ‘Freedom House’ says 2017 saw a decline in global freedom for the twelfth consecutive year. 71 countries went backwards, more than double those that made any democratic gains. Proponents of a technocratic system say a society managed by experts would be more rational and productive. Is it time for MPs to let the experts take over? Can we be ruled by technocrats?
