Iran's top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, was killed in an attack in Absard, a small city east of Tehran. Fakhrizadeh was widely seen by Western intelligence as the mastermind of clandestine Iranian efforts to develop nuclear weapons.
