TRT World Citizen 2018 Short Film Competition

In the world today, there is an overabundance of information, and we are constantly bombarded by facts, figures, and data points. The human element can easily get lost in all this. We can certainly live with information, but we thrive through experience.

The inSHORT Film Competition was launched 2018 as part of the ‘Am I Not A Child?’ campaign, to help connect us to the situation being faced by child refugees at a level beyond facts. The competition created a space for an artistic approach to the issue, to explore new perspectives and reach out to the audience emotionally.

We are happy to say that our first year was a great success. We received more than 3,200 short film submissions from over 110 countries. And after 3 separate rounds of judging, we have our 3 finalists.

Dreams Under the Rubble | 1st Prize

This film from Iraq tells the story of a paramedic working in a field hospital during the war. After an attack, he rescues a girl from the rubble of a destroyed house, only to find himself victim to the harrowing sense of loss around him.

The Doll | 2 nd Prize

After a terrorist attack, young Mariam is forced to flee as refugees to Turkey. All that remains of her past is a doll that caught a stray bullet in the crossfire.

The Companion | 3 rd Prize

Muhammed is the son of a Syrian refugee family that live in Turkey. He likes to doodle pictures in class - often revealing the pain of his past. Fortunately, his fellow students see this as an opportunity for companionship.
