Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan marked the 62nd anniversary of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) on Friday, praising the state broadcaster as a “significant reference point” in global media and a counterweight to rising disinformation.

In a congratulatory message addressed to TRT Director General Mehmet Zahid Sobaci, President Erdogan said TRT had strengthened its multilingual output and adapted to digital platforms while continuing to serve as “the voice of our country” and “the memory of our nation.”

Founded in 1964, TRT is Türkiye’s public broadcaster, funded primarily through licence fees and government allocations.

The president said TRT plays a significant role in projecting Türkiye’s positions internationally and advancing the country’s “justice struggle,” stressing that the broadcaster should continue producing “qualified, sector-leading” content.

The Turkish leader added that he believes the broadcaster will "remain the resounding voice of our country, our nation, and all the oppressed."

“The role played by TRT in carrying our Türkiye Century vision into the field of broadcasting—and in our efforts to more powerfully convey our country's rightful positions and our justice struggle to the international public—holds great importance,” he said.

“Türkiye Century” is Erdogan’s flagship political vision unveiled around the Republic’s centenary in 2023, aimed at expanding Türkiye’s global influence across diplomacy, defence, economy and media, with a strong emphasis on strategic communication and international outreach.

TRT operates a wide network of domestic and international channels, radio and digital platforms, broadcasting in more than 40 languages to global audiences, including dedicated international services such as TRT World, TRT Arabi, TRT Espanol and others.
