Türkiye’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin visited Afghanistan’s capital Kabul and the southern city of Kandahar, Turkish security sources said on Wednesday.

During his visit to Kabul, Kalin met his counterpart Abdul Haq Wasiq, head of Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Intelligence, according to the sources.

Kalin also held talks with senior officials of Afghanistan’s interim administration, including Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Defence Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid and Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

The talks focused on steps to deepen security and intelligence cooperation between Türkiye and Afghanistan, as well as bilateral relations.

The officials also discussed regional and global developments, particularly the US-Israel war on Iran, along with efforts to combat terrorism, human smuggling and drug trafficking, the sources said.

Kalin’s visit included stops in both Kabul and Kandahar, although the sources did not provide further details about his programme in Kandahar.
