The Israeli army killed a Palestinian and injured seven others on Thursday in fresh attacks in Gaza, in violation of a ceasefire deal in effect since late last year, medical sources said.
The sources said a man lost his life when Israeli forces opened fire in the Zarqa area of the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood in northeastern Gaza City.
In central Gaza, four Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire in the Bureij refugee camp. The wounded were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah city for medical attention, the sources added, without specifying the severity of their injuries.
Three more Palestinians, including two children, were wounded by Israeli fire in the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
In northern Gaza, Israeli artillery shelled areas east of Jabalia refugee camp beyond the “Yellow Line,” with no immediate reports of casualties.
The so-called “Yellow Line” separates areas of Israeli military deployment, which account for about 53 percent of Gaza’s eastern territory, from western areas where Palestinians are permitted to move.
The October 10 ceasefire agreement ended a war that began on October 8, 2023, and lasted two years. Palestinian authorities say the brutal war killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and wounded over 171,000 others and caused widespread destruction affecting 90% of civilian infrastructure.
The United Nations estimates reconstruction costs at approximately $70 billion.
At least 591 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,578 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
