Three members of Syria’s Internal Security Forces were killed and others injured on Thursday during an operation to arrest a wanted man in the southern province of Daraa, state news agency SANA reported.
The Internal Security Forces said the incident took place in the city of Al-Sanamayn, where an armed group led by the wanted man attacked a security patrol as officers carried out the arrest operation.
The group and security forces exchanged fire during the confrontation, according to the statement.
Security forces impose temporary curfew
Security forces continued deploying across Al-Sanamayn in pursuit of members of the armed group and others suspected of involvement in the attack, the Internal Security Forces said.
The Internal Security Command in Daraa imposed a temporary curfew in the city until the security situation stabilises.
Authorities said they would continue pursuing those involved in the attack and take legal action against them.
The incident highlights continuing security challenges in parts of southern Syria, where armed groups and local factions have remained active despite efforts by authorities to strengthen security control.
