US President Donald Trump has welcomed the signing of the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement by Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
"Very happy to see that Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan have recently, and finally, signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement," he said on his Truth Social platform.
Trump said the deal shows "how the Middle East is coming together, and how countries will finally be able to defend themselves in a more meaningful way. Congratulations to the Great Leadership of the three nations mentioned.
“THIS IS A BIG, BOLD, AND IMPORTANT FIRST STEP — WOW!" he added.
Shared strategic interests
Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed the defence agreement at a trilateral summit in Mecca on August 7, 2026, pledging to strengthen collective security, deepen defence cooperation and promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the deal a representation of "a strategic determination" in response to changing regional circumstances, adding that the trilateral mechanism is not a reaction to "day-to-day developments."
"Türkiye has always favoured diplomacy over tension, dialogue over conflict, and stronger regional cooperation over division. As a country capable of speaking with all parties and assuming responsibility on difficult issues when necessary, we will continue to do our part to establish lasting peace and stability in our region," he added.
Makkah Joint Defence Agreement commits the three nations to treat an armed attack on any one as an assault upon all, while deepening cooperation across every dimension of defence.
Rooted in longstanding bonds of Islamic solidarity and shared strategic interests, the agreement seeks to fortify collective deterrence, enhance regional stability and promote a more secure future without targeting any external party.
