President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said Türkiye-US strategic cooperation is expanding across all areas and that Ankara wants to turn its political alignment with Washington into stronger economic ties.
Erdogan said the two countries have recently made progress on the economic front, as he met with business leaders at Türkevi in New York on Wednesday.
"We recently finalised major agreements with the US in energy, aviation and other critical sectors through our joint efforts," he said.
He said the global economic order is being restructured and argued that this makes closer cooperation with Türkiye valuable for its partners.
"I believe that in a period when the global economic order is being restructured, there is a need for a strategic economic cooperation model with Türkiye," Erdogan said.
The Turkish president also pointed to the defence industry as an area where Türkiye can contribute to its allies' security.
"Our defence industry, which produces according to NATO standards, has reached the capacity to contribute to the supply security of our allies," he said.
Erdogan also said the Turkish construction sector is well placed to take part in rebuilding efforts in the region.
"Roads, ports, power plants, houses, and factories will be rebuilt in our region. The Turkish construction sector is the most prepared factor in this process," he said.
Resilient economy
The Turkish president said Ankara is pursuing measures to raise value added in industry and strengthen its technology base.
"We are implementing targeted and selective policies to increase added value in industry. We are accelerating infrastructure investments that will strengthen our position in artificial intelligence," he said.
He also said Türkiye is pressing ahead with its goal of a "Terror-Free Türkiye" as part of efforts to unlock the potential of the region.
"We are resolutely moving forward towards the goal of a Terror-Free Türkiye to mobilise our regional potential," he said.
Erdogan said the Turkish economy has shown it can withstand external pressures.
"Türkiye is an economy that not only reacts to shocks but also has gained resilience to them, investing in durability, productivity, and economic security," he said.
