At least 111 people have been killed and 87 injured after a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, collapsing buildings, damaging hospitals and infrastructure and triggering rescue operations across several cities.
The government has declared a national disaster as emergency teams search through rubble for survivors and authorities assess the extent of the destruction.

The Colombian government has declared a national disaster to strengthen the mobilisation and coordination of its emergency response.
President Abelardo De La Espriella said he had taken direct charge of the response and ordered the establishment of a unified command post.

Airports serving Pereira, Manizales, Quibdo, Armenia, Cartago and Buenaventura suspended operations for structural assessments, while damage was also reported at Cali's Alfonso Bonilla Aragon Airport.
The earthquake was felt beyond Colombia, with strong shaking reported in neighbouring Ecuador and Panama.
