Türkiye and Ukraine are strengthening their strategic partnership despite the ongoing war, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said following what he described as a "highly productive" visit to Kiev focused on bilateral ties, trade and regional security.
In a statement on X on Friday, Fidan said he held comprehensive talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, covering the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war as well as ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.
"We are very pleased that cooperation between our countries continues to deepen despite the conditions of war," Fidan said.
He welcomed Ukraine's parliamentary approval of the Türkiye-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement ahead of his visit, describing it as a major milestone that will create new opportunities for businesses and significantly advance bilateral economic relations.

Türkiye reiterates support for peace
During the visit, Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye's support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while reiterating Ankara's readiness to back initiatives aimed at bringing Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table.
"Türkiye is ready to support every initiative that will bring the parties back to negotiations and contribute to lasting peace," he said.
Fidan also met Crimean Tatar national leader Mustafa Abdulcemil Kirimoglu and Crimean Tatar Mejlis Chairman Refat Chubarov to discuss the situation of the Crimean Tatar community.
He said protecting the rights of Crimean Tatars and preserving their cultural identity would remain a priority for Türkiye.
Fidan also expressed gratitude after receiving a state decoration from President Zelenskyy, calling it an honour and thanking the Ukrainian authorities for the recognition.
He said Türkiye would continue to strengthen its longstanding friendship and strategic partnership with Ukraine in line with the vision of the two countries' presidents and based on mutual trust and shared interests.
