Qatari mediators have agreed to present the United States with fresh ideas developed alongside Tehran to facilitate Iran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced, indicating that a formal response from Washington could arrive this week.
Speaking to journalists in New York before concluding his diplomatic mission to the United Nations, Araghchi confirmed that he held further discussions with Qatari intermediaries to examine operational paths towards implementing Tehran's requirements.
"They had ideas, and we discussed how a way could be found to meet Iran’s conditions and how those conditions could be fulfilled," Araghchi said, according to the official IRNA news agency.
The diplomatic proposals are now being submitted to US officials, after which Washington's formal position will be transmitted back to Tehran through the intermediary channel.
"I hope this will happen by tomorrow," Araghchi added.
Mediation tracks
Araghchi confirmed that he is departing New York for Tehran within hours, noting that Qatari mediators will convey the American reaction as soon as it is finalised.
The foreign minister highlighted that indirect diplomatic channels conducted through Qatari and Pakistani intermediaries have remained active throughout the crisis, though discussions have grown considerably more focused following Iran's latest seven-day roadmap proposal.
Araghchi reiterated that Tehran actively utilised its bilateral and multilateral engagements in New York to clarify directly to Washington and the wider international community the exact baseline conditions required before commercial shipping can safely resume through the Strait of Hormuz.
