US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Washington was not attacking Iran “in full” because of the November 3 midterm elections, predicting that the war would end after the vote or possibly earlier.
Asked in a Fox News interview about calls for the US to “go in full” against Iran, Trump cited the upcoming election.
“Well, maybe I don't do that because of the election,” he said, claiming that Iran was “limping along” and “in deep trouble”.
Trump said Iran still had missiles despite US attacks, but claimed its arsenal had been largely destroyed.
“They had plenty, and they have some. They've been largely wiped out ... But they have missiles. They'll always have some missiles,” he said.
He also said he had no regrets about the course of the war and claimed US attacks had eliminated Iran’s nuclear capability.
“If I had to do it again, I would do exactly as I did,” Trump said, claiming Tehran would have used a nuclear weapon against Israel, the Middle East and US cities.
The US President also rejected a Wall Street Journal report suggesting the Iran war will last until the end of his term, saying ‘not even a chance'.
