Eight people were injured in overnight Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling targeting towns in the southern Lebanese district of Tyre despite an ongoing ceasefire and negotiations between Beirut and Tel Aviv.
Israeli drones carried out three air strikes on the Al Malaab neighbourhood in the town of Burj Al Shamali, about 5 kilometres from Tyre, and Israel's fighter jets later struck the same location in a fourth attack, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on Thursday.
Lebanon's Health Ministry said in a statement that eight people were wounded in the strikes on Burj Al Shamali.
Israeli warplanes also launched three air strikes on an area between the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district.
At the same time, Mansouri came under artillery and tank fire.
Lebanon, Israel begin final day of 7th round of negotiations in Rome
The attacks came as the seventh round of US-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel continued on Thursday in the Italian capital Rome, while the Israeli army intensified its military offensive on southern Lebanon overnight.
The discussions were focused on mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire agreement, completing Israel's withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory, and strengthening the deployment of Lebanon's army in border areas, a Lebanese official told Anadolu.
This marks the second round hosted by Rome after five previous rounds were held in Washington, DC, as part of a US-sponsored negotiating process.
The talks come amid continued Israeli attacks, including airspace violations over Beirut and Tyre, as well as air strikes and shelling in southern Lebanon.
Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a US-mediated framework agreement on June 26.
The agreement provides for a phased Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory, beginning with the implementation of a pilot model in designated areas.
Israel has continued its military offensive on Lebanon since March 2. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israeli attacks have killed 4,333 people and injured 12,250 others in Lebanon.
