The Board of Peace — a multilateral initiative launched by US President Donald Trump in January and backed by a UN resolution to coordinate the reconstruction of Gaza and establish a security framework for the Palestinian enclave — has called for international support for its roadmap, reaffirming its objectives ahead of the UN General Assembly in New York.
In a statement on X on Tuesday, the board, chaired by Trump, outlined goals including the demilitarisation and deradicalisation of Gaza, sustained humanitarian aid and reconstruction, effective Palestinian civilian and security administration, and lasting security for Palestinians.
It said an agreement reached with Hamas on July 30 provides a roadmap for the next stages of the ceasefire, including demilitarisation, Israeli withdrawal, Palestinian administration and reconstruction.
The board urged all parties to uphold their commitments and avoid actions that could undermine the ceasefire, while calling on international partners to turn political support into practical commitments.
Emphasising diplomacy in securing lasting peace
“UNGA provides an opportunity to consolidate the international community behind one agreed framework,” the statement said.
The board said the peace plan had paved the way for the release and return of all Israeli hostages and the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, followed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the board’s establishment.
It stressed the role of diplomacy in securing lasting peace and security in Gaza.
Since October 8, 2023, Israel has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 others in its genocidal war on Gaza, while around 90 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
